The gym of the future

Preva - 2014

Technology has changed the way people approach to fitness and as new mobile apps and gadgets become available the tech revolution affects gyms as well. Gym members are more informed than before and want to be able to benefit of the latest technology when joining their gym. Treadmills, weight machines, bikes, and the whole gym equipment are changing because of technology. Therefore, it is important for facilities owners to stay updated with the newest trends if they want to provide a high quality service to their members.

Here are some of the companies that rule the world of tech fitness equipment.

Life Fitness

Life Fitness is one of the world’s leader manufactures of fitness equipment that specializes in the production and distribution of equipment for commercial and home fitness. Life Fitness has been around for about 40 years and developed the industry's first computerized stationary bike. With more than 400 products the American manufacturer provides all kind of fitness equipment with the latest technologies. Check here for the full range of their products.

The innovation of Life Fitness doesn’t end here. At CES 2013 Life Fitness announced a partnership with Runtastic. Life Fitness equipment will be integrated with the Runtastic app so that users can save their activity parameters straight into their phones. For example when running on the treadmill they can click ‘save’ on the screen and the session is automatically saved on runtastic.com (Runtastic, 2013) This is definitely one of the most advanced features ever presented: so far users had to insert manually their performances parameters on mobile devices in order to monitor their progress, but if this technology used by Life Fitness is fully implemented the future of fitness is definitely going to change!

Even if you’re not aware how to use the equipment the website gives you ‘how to use’ demo videos, which will show you how to use each piece of equipment, the video will also give you tips on what muscles each equipment will build. Some of the equipment has QR codes where you can scan an equipment and get the ‘how to use’ video straight to you device. 625 × 377 - chopra-m.blogspot.com

In the last post I talked about how technology is changing the way we approach to fitness and how it can help measuring and achieving our fitness goals. The wide range of fitness apps available out there makes it easier because we can use them on our smartphones and IPods, however a new generation of high tech wearable gadgets is now breaking into the fit-tech world. Products like the FitBit and the Nike Fuelband are becoming extremely popular and allow to track movement, monitor performance, count steps and even track the quality of sleep.

Here let's have a look at some of the latest hits in terms of wearable fitness technology, many of which were presented at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in January in Las Vegas.

The number of fitness apps available is endless as the options they provide. Whether your goal is to monitor your workout, find a gym, track your progress or lose weight, there is an app for you. Also apps can help fitness instructors and coaches to stay connected with their clients providing them with more personalized and interactive fitness programmes.

Today we are having a quick look at some of the most popular fitness apps available. Hopefully you can find the one that best suits your fitness needs.

Speedo Fit

Speedo Fit is a swim fitness free app for iOS which helps people to find their local pools and keep track of their swims. Originally called ‘Splashpath', the app became Speedo Fit in 2013 and is a great tool for swimmers that want to access information about local pools and monitor their achievements. The app also improves consumers’ engagement providing swimming challenges, and allowing users to communicate their swimming activities to friends via social media features (TLDC, 2007). For pool operators this iPhone app it’s a great way to increase their customer bases around the country. Through Speedo Fit they can generate, update, and simultaneously publish their timetables across the web and in app (Speedo International Limited, 2012). Speedo Fit is now available in the UK, Ireland, France and China.
