The wide range of fitness apps available out there makes it easier because we can use them on our smartphones and IPods, however a new generation of high tech wearable gadgets is now breaking into the fit-tech world. Products like the FitBit and the Nike Fuelband are becoming extremely popular and allow to track movement, monitor performance, count steps and even track the quality of sleep.

Here let's have a look at some of the latest hits in terms of wearable fitness technology, many of which were presented at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in January in Las Vegas.

Speedo Fit is a swim fitness free app for iOS which helps people to find their local pools and keep track of their swims. Originally called ‘Splashpath', the app became Speedo Fit in 2013 and is a great tool for swimmers that want to access information about local pools and monitor their achievements. The app also improves consumers’ engagement providing swimming challenges, and allowing users to communicate their swimming activities to friends via social media features (TLDC, 2007). Ever heard of Bokwa?

What does it stand for you ask well, with the Bo, short for boxing and Kwa, which stands for the an African culture dance Kwaito. Bokwa is a new group exercise class, which consist of participants, drawing letters and numbers with their feet, whilst moving along to music in a cardio workout routine.

Bokwa was developed by a fitness instructor, Paul Mavi, based in Los Angeles, Paul Mavi developed Bokwa by taking his South African roots as a dancer and musician and turning it into a new group exercise. For 8 years Paul ran his own classes, in 2012 by becoming partners with a television and fitness entrepreneur, this new fitness craze went global, with many independent fitness instructors, training to become Bokwa instructors and delivering around local areas (Bokwa Fitness, 2014).

Who can do it?
Unlike other dance group exercise classes that requires participants to have a little rhythm and time keeping, Bokwa is different, as the steps are structured in the forms of letters and numbers, the most popular steps being letters L, J, K and the number 3 with no choreography, all participants are required to do is learn the basic structured steps, by drawing the letters or numbers with you feet, once the basic steps are mastered, participants can freestyle to the music, as the steps will always remain the same. From 4-year-old kids to 75 year old men and women everyone can enjoy Bokwa (Bokwa Fitness, 2014).
